First Free-Fall Parachute Jump

April 28, 1919: Leslie L. Irvin (founder of the Irvin Parachute Company, which is today Irvin Aerospace) made the first free-fall parachute jump at McCook Field in Dayton, Ohio, thereby proving that such jumps do not induce unconsciousness (as otherwise predicted by some experts). April 27, 1920: Ormer Locklear was fined $25 for "reckless aerial driving" over Los Angeles.
